Ectoin

Ectoin is a protective molecule produced by organisms that thrive in extreme, high-salt environments. In skincare it helps skin hold water and reinforces the natural barrier, so the complexion stays hydrated and better able to withstand environmental stressors such as pollution and dry air. It is well suited to sensitive skin and skin prone to redness.

Its comforting role makes ectoin a natural match for retinol, and iS Clinical includes it in Retinol+ Emulsion 0.3 alongside bakuchiol, rice bran extract and colloidal gold. The emulsion sits in the Treat step after cleansing; follow with a moisturiser to Hydrate. On the mornings after use, an SPF at the Protect step completes the routine.
