Ageing & the Neck

Introduction:

Ageing and the Neck

Loose or sagging skin on the neck is a common concern, this often worsens as ageing continues. As we get older the production of collagen and elastin in our skin can dramatically decrease, these are the foundation along with hydration are the key to plump skin. Ageing of the neck often appears as ‘bands’ going across the neck, sometimes called necklace lines.

Signs of ageing in this area can be visible from our 30s with them becoming more prominent as we ages. With the influx of age defying facial treatments, the neck often gets overlooked. Many cosmetic doctors, aestheticians and cosmetologists pinpoint the neck and the hands as the biggest tell tale sign of ageing.

Ageing of the neck can be caused by creasing the neck while looking down. Your posture can also be a contributing factor, poor posture often leads to rounded shoulders and ‘invisible’ neck. Some believe that the platysma muscle can play a large part of “banding” or “necklace lines”. The platysma muscle runs from the jawline down to the décolleté, as we get older it tightens and loses its flexibility, causing a downwards pull skin of the lower face and neck. The neck area can be very challenging to treat due to the structure, a greater impact from gravity and less microcirculation. The lack of microcirculation means that we lose more collagen as well as a lesser oxygen supply causing the skin of the neck to receive less nutrients.

However, we can reduce the visible signs of aging on the neck topically by extending our skincare routine down the face on to the neck and décolleté and incorporate a specific neck cream. iS Clinicals Neck Perfect Complex contains Mixed Fruit Acids and Willow Bark Extract to encourage desquamation and healthy cell turnover. Hyaluronic Acid and Hydrolysed Quinoa work to bind moisture. It also has sweet almond seed extract, Acacia Senegal Gum and Hydrolysed Rhizobian Gum work to instantly firm, smooth and enhance the complexion of the skin on the neck.
